Moving in, moving out or downsizing in Yorkville
Few towns around here have seen more boxes packed and unpacked than Yorkville over the past several years. Moves have a way of surfacing gold nobody has thought about in a decade: a jewelry box at the back of a closet, a coin in an envelope, a chain tangled in a drawer with old watches and keys. When that happens, here's how to turn it into one quick, worthwhile trip.
Don't sort it. Dump the drawer into a bag and bring the whole thing. We separate real gold from plated and costume pieces at the counter, in front of you, and it usually takes minutes.
Don't clean it. Tarnish, dust and old polish residue have no effect on what we pay, because our offer is based on purity and weight, not shine.
Bring the pieces you're unsure about. The stamp inside a ring or on a clasp tells most of the story, and we read them with you. A quick look at the stamps that mean real gold can help you decide what to throw in the bag.
Leave the plated and costume pieces if you can already tell. They're not something we can buy, but if you can't tell, bring them anyway and we'll show you the difference.
Keep what you want to keep. Nothing is sold until you say so, and families regularly set a few sentimental pieces aside after seeing what each is worth.
Clearing out a longtime Yorkville home
When a parent's house is being emptied, jewelry tends to be scattered: some in a box, some in a dresser, some tucked away in places only they knew about. Gather what you find and bring it all. We'll test each piece, group the gold by karat, and give you a breakdown of the weight and price for each karat, which comes in handy when more than one family member needs to see the numbers. Larger estates can be handled in a private appointment by calling (630) 593-3510. For what to expect from start to finish, read our guide to inherited and estate gold.
What's worth bringing from Yorkville
The short answer: if it's real gold, bring it. Style, age, condition and whether it's still in fashion don't matter to us. The pieces that most often come from Yorkville:
- Chains and bracelets of every weight, from delicate to heavy
- Rings of every kind, from thin bands to older, heavier mountings
- Gold coins and bars, including American Eagles, Krugerrands and older coins
- Solid gold watches, pocket watches and watch cases, and we'll check whether yours is solid
- 22K and 24K jewelry, whether it was bought here or abroad
- Pendants, charms, medallions, cuff links and tie clips
Plated items, gold-filled pieces and costume jewelry are the only things we can't buy, and we'll identify those for you at no charge. Pricing starts with the current gold market, then your gold's measured purity and weight. The full method is in what is spot price.
What we buy

The drive from Yorkville
The direct way is US-34 (Veterans Parkway) east into Oswego, then north on Douglas Rd. Douglas Rd carries you across US-30 and ends the trip at Douglas Ave and Montgomery Rd, where we're on the corner. From Grande Reserve, Bristol Bay and the north side of town, Galena Rd east to Orchard Rd north is about as quick; cross the river in Montgomery on US-30 East and turn onto Douglas. Tap Get Directions and your phone will pick the better of the two from where you are.
Where Yorkville sellers can go
Yorkville and the Route 47 corridor have jewelers, pawn shops and the occasional sign in a window that says "we buy gold." Each works differently. A jeweler may prefer pieces it can resell, and a pawn shop's main business is lending against items rather than buying them outright. Our only business is buying gold, which is why every test happens at the counter where you can see it and every offer comes with its breakdown by karat. The trade-offs between these options are laid out in where to sell gold.
